used stuff
used stuff : --Andy GardeckiYour Guide to Sportscards atAbout - The Human InternetFrom: ()Subject: Re: ESPN's take on game used stuff Newsgroups: Date: 2000/08/09ESPN has no clue what they are talking about!!!!! They are also trying tosay that the jerseys are not game used. ESPN is trying to ruin the hobby. They suck.
used stuff : I read the series of articles posted by Jeff Novell. They mentioned thatsome of the jerseys are from rookie photo shoots, but I didn't see a generalallegation that the jerseys aren't game-worn, only that the players wearhuge numbers of jerseys now. They don't just wear one for the whole seasonanymore.
used stuff : I thought the series of articles was good. It simply discussed the currentgame-used fad and brought up a the issue of historical preservation.I don't follow hockey, so I had never heard of Vezina before this started, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that those pads have historicvalue and should be beyond cutting up.
used stuff : I think that something that I learned from the article is that Fleer has asensible position on the issue. They aren't averse to cutting up stuff, butthere is some stuff they think is beyond cutting up.I agree with this. I like game-used stuff, and I don't think it'sinherently evil. The historical record of the sport of baseball has notbeen harmed because I have an Edgar Martinez game-used jersey card. Butthere is some stuff that shouldn't be cut up. If it's very old and rare, orhas some special significance, it should go to the HOF, or at least tosomeone who will preserve it. This stuff should be beyond cutting up.
used stuff : I think it very likely that there will be pressure on these companies to cutstuff up that should be beyond cutting up. If other companies start cuttingup stuff that shouldn't be cut up, I'm going to stop buying stuff from them.I don't like everything the card companies do, but at least it's betweenthem and us, and we can go into it with our eyes open. But cutting up stuffthat should be beyond cutting up crosses a very clear and important line. You don't destroy historical artifacts in order to make a profit.
